MEASURING HUMAN RIGHTS
http://www.mathaction.org/measuring-human-rights.html
To empower the next generation to use mathematics as a tool to understand - and seek solutions for - the most pressing global challenges of our time.
🕌🕍🕋⛩🏛⛪️💒What is the religious diversity of the world? Of the United States? In this investigation, sixth grade students explored these questions (and raised many more). Using Pew Center's religious diversity index and data, we explored the diversity of the world.  Afterwards, small groups of students analyzed religious diversity of one state and then we put together a map of the United States to analyze the religious diversity of the country. In this process, students learned about scale, proportions, mathematical modeling – and communicated these ideas and concepts during their presentations.
➕⛑🐝BUT, ALSO...
By blending the precision of mathematics with the ambiguities of complex global issues, MathAction students learn to use mathematics to investigate social issues, recognize multiple perspectives, communicate ideas and inform their actions. Our ultimate goal is to help young people develop into well-informed global citizens who will make a positive contribution to the world. 🌎 🌁🌉2323 Broadway Oakland, CA 94612
