Would you answer the same ? Probably so, if we answer without taking into account dogmatic points of Christology that of course are so important , but trying to answer in a more existential way perhaps someone would reply “You are the one with whom I speak when I feel confused or sad”. Someone else might say “You are the one who makes me strong in my everyday life.You are the one who shows me the correct path to take” or “You are the one who makes me feel loved. The one who saved me, the one who rescued me” ……… Think for a moment about what your answer might be . This kind of answer is such a personal thing and in a sense it explains our faith and decision to follow Jesus. Following Jesus is a personal decision and that is the reason He said “If anyone wishes to come after me…” For, in following Jesus it is necessary to have the wish and the desire ….Jesus offers us all the things that we have just said : presence, love, salvation, sense and much more but first of all it requires a decision from us ; Our will . Is there a condition if we want to follow Him ? I don’t think there is a condition . Jesus does not make conditions for his love and friendship … I think that his words are above all an advertisement that “if you follow me you will deny yourself and take up the cross” because following him involves losing your own life but paradoxically in losing it you are saving it . This is the science of the cross. As Christians we live this science every day ….. Any time you deny yourself for love , you are living the science of the cross. Any time you forgive , you are living the science of the cross , Any time you give your time to others rather than dealing with your own personal matters you are living the science of the cross. Any time you pray for others , that their lives might be happier and better , in that precise moment you are living the science of the cross. So brothers and sisters , may the Virgin Mary , the one who shared with Jesus the moment of the terrible crucifixion, intercede for us to recognise Christ as our Lord and Savior and to follow Him with confidence. No creo en las herencias de dinero y poder. La alegría de vivir se construye desde la edad temprana, paso a paso, hasta llegar a ser una persona mayor. Yo me siento joven, lleno de energía; para mi alguien “mayor” es quien tiene veinte años más que yo, es decir ronda los 94 años y usa bastón. Hace siete siglos, 700 años, se consideraban viejas a las personas de 30 años, hace 180 años el novelista francés Honorato de Balzac (1799-1850), autor de La comedia humana, escribió La mujer de 30 años (ver portada arriba), como símbolo del envejecimiento.
