RESOURCES FOR GROUPS
BPFP is a nonprofit 501(c)3 corporation established in 1995 .
Our mission: Berkeley Partners for Parks builds vibrant, healthy, ecologically sound communities by providing the infrastructure that volunteer groups need in order to improve the beauty and usefulness of public space and recreation in and around Berkeley, California.
One of BPFP’s main functions is to act as fiscal sponsor and mentor for volunteer community groups who do not have IRS exempt status and whose work aligns with our mission. For these groups, BPFP receives grants and tax-deductible donations and provides banking, record-keeping, and preparation of tax returns. It also provides liability insurance certificates on request. BPFP also offers web hosting, help with publicity, information on grant opportunities, and advice and support from experienced activists with a long record of organizing citizens for responsible stewardship.

The Berkeley Partners for Parks web site is designed to allow all partner groups to post announcements and news in one central place. For partner groups with their own web sites, we encourage you to post your events and major news items here in addition to on your own web site. Partner groups should review the Guidelines for posting before posting (also includes information on receiving your log in name and password).

Videos on posting to the web (these files are rather large, so don’t try with a slow internet connection). The WordPress interface has changed a bit, but the basic steps are still the same, although the layout of certain buttons may have changed.

Know the Park District Dog Rules -- And How Point Isabel Is Different

| Point Isabel Dog Owners
The East Bay Regional Park District (EBRPD) manages 73 parks with 1,250 miles of trails. Each park or trail may have unique requirements, but these nine rules generally apply wherever dogs are allowed:
NO DOGS in buildings, at food concessions, designated bathing beaches, golf courses, tot lots, swimming pools, nature study areas, marshes, wetlands, streams, creeks, ponds, and some lakes.
DOGS ON LEASH for the first 200 feet of dirt trails, whenever cattle are present, when approaching goats behind an electrified fence, and on paved trails, sidewalks, streets, parking lots, playing fields, and at picnic areas and campgrounds.
YOU MUST HAVE A LEASH no longer than six feet for each dog. Retractables in on leash areas must be locked at six feet.
DOG(S) MUST BE UNDER CONTROL.You have to be able to see your dog and it must come when you call it.
DOGS MAY NOT HARASS OR HARM other dogs, park visitors, wildlife, or livestock.
DOG OWNERS MAY BRING UP TO THREE DOGS to the parks. With an individual or household permit, that increases to six dogs.
PROFESSIONAL DOG WALKERS NEED PERMITS. If you walk a dog for money, you need an EBRPD commercial dog-walking permit. Pros can bring up to six dogs to designated trails and parks, including Point Isabel.
YOU MUST CLEAN UP after your dog every time it poops and put the poop bag in a trash can or take it with you. Don’t leave it by the side of the trail or toss it in the bushes.
REPORT INCIDENTS. If your dog bites a person or animal, you must provide your contact information when asked. Report serious incidents to EBRPD Public Safety Department (510-881-1833) within 24 hours. In an emergency, call 911 or 510-881-1121.

POINT ISABEL RULES
Point Isabel is different in that dogs may be off leash everywhere except parking lots. Other things to know:
IT’S NOT A “DOG PARK.” Point Isabel is a multi-use park that allows off-leash dogs. We share the park with many park user groups, including walkers, joggers, people fishing, and windsurfers.
HIGH TIDE IS FOR DOGS, LOW TIDE IS FOR BIRDS. Dogs are not allowed in Hoffman Channel or Hoffman Bay (the little bay on North Point Isabel) at low tide. They can swim anytime in San Francisco Bay.
DOGS MUST NOT DIG. Holes are hazardous to dogs and people, and digging could expose landfill pollutants (such as lead and zinc) that should stay buried.
LEASH UP IN PARKING LOTS AND ON THE BAY TRAIL.Also, retractables are discouraged at Point Isabel. (Search online for “retractable” and “burns” to see why.)
NO BIKES.For safety reasons, bikes (including kids’ bikes) aren’t allowed on the trails within Point Isabel. Cyclists should loop around the park using the Bay Trail.
NO DOGS IN PROTECTED AREAS. No dogs, even on-leash, along the shoreline north of Point Isabel or in Hoffman Marsh (the wetland east of the bridge).
